Presentation Title: Creating Authentic, Youth-Led Mental Health Content on Social Media

Presentation Description:

In this session, peer support leaders from the Hey, I’m Here campaign will walk participants through how to responsibly create mental health content for social media that’s authentic, engaging, and safe. With young people increasingly turning to online platforms for support and self-expression, it’s critical to teach content creators how to share their stories without encouraging self-diagnosis, misinformation, or oversharing.

We’ll cover the full content creation process, including idea generation, technical tips (lighting, sound, setting), scripting using trauma-informed approaches, publishing with intention, and recovering after posting. Attendees will learn how to speak from lived experience while avoiding clinical language, how to frame messages ethically, and how to build community without compromising safety or privacy.

Using real video examples from our campaign and other youth creators doing it well, we’ll demonstrate what makes mental health storytelling both powerful and responsible. The session also includes guidance on navigating post-posting anxiety, attention spans, and the temptation to rely on AI. We'll emphasize why your voice matters—and how to use it mindfully in the digital space.

Participants will walk away with practical tools for training youth content creators, including checklists, talking points, and calls to action for every post.
